Two things have undoubtedly been true this summer: The superstars are shining, and the Golden Boot odds seem to be changing every minute.
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé continue to trade spectacular performances in a generational battle for the Golden Boot, with each superstar seemingly one-upping the other in every match.
With his goal in France’s quarterfinal win over Morocco, Mbappé has scored his 20th career World Cup goal, the second-most of any player in tournament history in just his 20th match. He now has 12 knockout stage goals at the World Cup, extending his record for the most of any player ever.
Mbappé is also the first player ever to score eight goals in two separate World Cups.
Meanwhile, Messi has now scored in nine consecutive World Cup matches, extending his own record for the longest streak.
Messi is now up to 21 career World Cup goals, extending another record, this one for the most goals by any man or woman in World Cup history. He has now scored eight of Argentina’s 14 goals this tournament, and became the first player since the 1960s to score in six straight knockout stage games.
Let’s dive into the updated Golden Boot odds at FanDuel Sportsbook as of July 10.

Here’s what to know about this oddsboard:
The Tally: So far this summer, Messi and Mbappé lead the tournament with eight goals, Haaland has seven, Kane’s tallied six, and Ousmane Dembélé, Mikel Oyarzabal and Jude Bellingham are tied with four.
History Made: With his hat trick against Algeria, Messi tied Miroslav Klose for the most goals in men’s World Cup history with 16, while also setting the record as the oldest player (38) to record a hat trick, passing Cristiano Ronaldo. In Argentina’s second game against Austria, Messi scored twice to put some space between himself and Klose. Then, after coming on as a sub in the second half of Argentina’s last group stage match against Jordan, Messi added another, this time via a lovely free kick. Now, after his goal against Egypt, Messi has scored in every game so far this World Cup. Meanwhile, Mbappé, with his dominant offensive performance so far this tournament, now has 20 career World Cup goals, passing Klose as the second-most in men’s World Cup history. We are more than likely to see this record go back and forth as long as both France and Argentina stay alive in the tournament.
